The Twin Peaks was originally called “Los Pechos de la Chola,” which means “Breasts of the Indian Maiden.” This name was given by Spaniards who settled in the area a long time ago.
If you have a car then you can simply drive to Christmas Tree Point. It’s a popular lookout area in the North Peak. It got its name because back in the 1920s, promotional lighting of trees was held in the area. The lookout provides a 360-degree view of the whole city of San Francisco. You may even get a view of the Golden Gate Bridge if the weather is good. There’s limited parking in the area so you need to come early or you’ll have to wait for a spot to open up. From Christmas Tree Point, you can access both peaks by climbing the stairs. Just be sure to bring a jacket because it can get windy at the top.
If you’re up for it, you can also hike up to the Twin Peaks. It’s relatively easy but it’ll still give you a good workout. There are different trails that you can take to reach the summit. One is the Creeks to Peaks hike, which is 1.8 miles long. It’s called that because the trail will take you to Glen Canyon’s Islais Creek. You’ll be rewarded with the view of scenic grasslands when you take this path. You can also take one of the trails that lead to Christmas Tree Point and from there just climb the stairs to the peaks.
